The Daughters of Edward Wesley Tebbs

Edward Wesley Tebbs was born in Kensington, London in 1861. Edward Tebbs started his working life as a draper's assistant in Brighton. Edward Tebbs later joined a tailoring business in Brighton and appears to have entered into a partnership with tailor Benjamin Lee in Trafalgar Street. In 1890 Edward Tebbs married Minnie Amelia Gander (born 1869,Shere, Surrey), the daughter of  Jesse Gander, a farmer of Balcombe in Sussex. By 1899, Edward Tebbs was running a tailoring business in Brighton and living at Cheriton Lodge, Hampstead Road in the Preston district of Brighton. By 1901, Edward Tebbs was the father of two daughters - Jessie Elizabeth Tebbs (born 1891, Brighton) and Elsie Amelia Tebbs (born 1894, Brighton). By 1915, Edward Tebbs and his family were living at 11 Surrenden Road, Preston Drove not far from Brighton's Preston Park.

These portraits of Mr Tebbs are not identified but there was a draper and silk merchant named William Tebbs (born c1822, Melton Mowbray, Leics.) living in Brighton at the time of the 1881 census. [ABOVE] Another portrait of Elsie Amelia Tebbs by A. H. Fry of 68 East Street Brighton (c1901).
